The front of a home says a great deal before anyone steps inside. For this detached property in Cheadle Hulme, the existing rosewood uPVC windows and door had dated the exterior considerably – a warm brown finish that, while popular in its time, had come to work against the character of the home rather than with it.
The decision to refresh the front elevation and porch transformed the whole feel of the property. We installed Kommerling flush windows in Painswick throughout the front of the home, finished with white internals that keep the inside bright and uncluttered. The Painswick tone – soft, considered, sitting somewhere between warm white and pale grey – immediately lifts the appearance of the brick facade, giving the elevation a freshness and refinement the rosewood frames simply couldn’t offer.
The entrance was completed with a Solidor Ludlow 2 composite door, also in Painswick, fitted with Park Lane Bespoke glass and brushed aluminium handles. The Park Lane glass introduces an elegant detail to the door without feeling fussy, allowing light into the hallway while adding a quiet decorative touch that suits the style of the property. The brushed aluminium hardware ties everything together – understated but precise, exactly the right finishing note for a door in this colour.
What makes this installation particularly satisfying is its consistency. Every element across the front elevation – the flush casement windows, the bay, the gable window and the entrance door – shares the same colour, the same finish and the same considered approach. The result is a home that looks properly put together from the street, with a quiet confidence that the original rosewood frames never quite managed.
